Starting in April 2018 Medicare will begin mailing new cards to everyone who gets Medicare benefits. This is not just for individuals over age 65 but also for individuals that are on Social Security Disability. Medicare is removing Social Security Numbers from the card. The new card will have a unique Medicare Number. This will happen automatically. You don't need to do anything or pay anyone to get your new card. Medicare will mail your card at no cost, to the address you have on file with the Social Security Administration.
The new cards are being rolled out across the country and will take a year to complete.
Protect yourself when you get your new card, and destroy your old cards. Be on the lookout for any type of scams - most importantly don't ever give any personal information away over the telephone.
